Growing up Paul used his athletic competition to deal with personal demons he faced.  He was put through a series of foster homes, as a young fella he was voted most athletic in his 6th grade.  After losing his leg in a car accident he turned to serious training, within 5 years he accomplished and represented four different national athletic teams-cycling, alpine skiing, ice hockey and triathlon; and medal in the 2004 Paralympics
